Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips became Europe’s darling yesterday after an outstanding performance in England’s 1-0 win over Croatia.
The 25-year-old made his debut for the Threes Lions at a major tournament, but his performance at the country’s European Championship opener mirrored that of a veteran.
The Leeds star led the entire game in midfield with Croatians Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic unable to cope with his strength and overall brilliance.
The big folks on the continent would have been alerted by Phillips’ Sunday appearance, and a couple of them might be calling this summer.
The England international is unlikely to be leaving Leeds anytime soon, but more applications are likely to come in next summer if he impresses at the World Cup as expected.
Sticking to Phillips could prove Hercules for the Elland Road outfit, and former Leeds center-back and Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand responded on Twitter when asked about the player’s future:

The Yorkshire Pirlo loves Leeds down to the last detail, but could the chance of winning silver domestically and on the continent lure him away from Elland Road?
Although they cannot flex the financial muscles of their moneybags, the whites have an ambitious owner in the Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani and plan to advance into Europe soon.
They may not look like that at the moment, but Leeds could be playing Champions League football and battling for the Premier League title sooner rather than later, and planning towards such high ambitions would definitely help them keep a player like Phillips.
