The 2021 NBA postseason is in full swing. And to say it isn’t going quite the way we thought it might be the biggest understatement we’ve ever made about an NBA playoff run. The play-offs have begun and teams that sports betting sites considered favorites early on haven’t even reached the first round.
The preseason favorites are out
The Los Angeles Lakers, the defending champions of the NBA, led by LeBron James. They had a tough old season and struggled with injuries that arguably cost them throughout the season. But when you have a man like LeBron James by your side, nothing is impossible. Or at least it was never normal.
That was until they faced the Phoenix Suns, who eliminated the Lakers from the NBA playoffs on Thursday night with a 113-100 win in Game 6 of their first-round series. If it wasn’t bad enough that LeBron couldn’t lead them to consecutive wins, it was made worse by the fact that James left the first-round playoffs for the first time in his career. Still, it was a record he maintained.
Who are the new favorites?
Well, with the Big Three, the Brooklyn Nets will always be one of the top contenders, and they’ve played two of our games of the season so far. Win one and lose the other. They finished second in the Eastern Conference, but they are in shape now.
They drew the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round and won Game 1 115-107. So you are in the best position to advance to the next round.
But as one of our other favorites for the championship, the Bucks won’t be a pushover and will undoubtedly come back in Game 2. With star players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and tough, resilient players like Bobby Portis, they have every chance, even if they are currently one step behind the nets.
Only one of them can get through, and if they do, they may have to face the Philadelphia 76ers, the Utah Jazz, or the team that knocked out the Lakers, the Phoenix Suns.
The 76ers were the top-ranked team in the Eastern Conference, beating the Nets in first place. But you lost your star player Joel Embiid, could that affect your chances? Or could he return in time to help them win an NBA championship?
As for jazz, they were the front runners in the Western Conference, with Donovan Mitchell having an incredible regular season. He had the best record in the entire NBA and if he continued like this he could easily get jazz into the finals and claim the championship title.
But let’s not write off the suns. The first team to knock out LeBron James in the first round. It takes some work and this win will no doubt make the team confident and if they can ride that adrenaline rush it could lead them to victory at the end of the season.
