According to football.london, Roma will announce the signing of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Xhaka first came to Arsenal from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2016, signing for an estimated transfer fee of £ 35million. Since then he has played 220 games for the Gunners, scored 13 goals and helped the club to two FA Cups.
The former captain was a divisive figure at the Emirates Stadium after bumping into fans once after being substituted off.
Now, after five years in north London, the Swiss international appears to be finalizing his move to Roma, reports football.london. It is believed to cost around £ 16m, which is a huge loss to Arsenal.
Xhaka isn’t the only midfielder to leave the Emirates this summer. Loans Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard will return to Real Madrid, while loaned quartet Joe Willock, Matteo Guendouzi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Lucas Torreira are set to be sold on a permanent basis.
This means that Mikel Arteta only has Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in the central midfield. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves was named as a possible addition and former star Aaron Ramsey.
The Roma will look for improvement this season as they finished the season in seventh place. This qualified them for the new Europa Conference League.
La Lupa will also be on the lookout for a new central midfielder, with Lorenzo Pellegrini constantly linked with a move from Stadio Olimpico. It was reported yesterday that Liverpool had made an offer for the Italian.
Xhaka will have the opportunity to work with former Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho, who has just come to Roma for his second Serie A appearance. His first time in Italy was with Inter Milan, where he won two championship titles and a Champions League, and a Coppa Italia in two seasons.
