The NBA season is drawing to a close and the NBA playoffs are just around the corner. As always, we hope to have a handful of teams that have a real chance of winning the championship. Will one of these teams come out well and take the trophy home, or will one of the more expensive teams cause a stir and lift the trophy?
For many years, the NBA has drawn fans to bet on the league. Some people bet individually on every game they watch, others place long-term bets on who will win the championship, there are many ways to bet. Those interested in learning more about how to make bets can find a wealth of knowledge and reading online to help with this, especially if you want to get into the current NBA season.
Here’s a look at the top teams towards the end of the NBA season. One of those 10 teams will likely have their name on the trophy when we get to summer.
James Harden, Kevin Durrant and Kyrie Irving are known as the Big Three in Brooklyn, and it is because of these three players that they are favorites to win the NBA title. We haven’t seen much of them on the court yet, but when they get healthy and play together it is an impressive force and one that will require many stops.
Injuries are always a problem for any team in the league, but even if Brooklyn has two of the three available, this is still a team that can go deep into the NBA playoffs this season.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers gained a foothold on the pitch without LeBron and Anthony Davis, which came as a pleasant surprise to their fans. Assuming these two are back in May, prepare for this team to take off and really challenge for the NBA title.
The supporting cast have stepped forward and delivered in the absence of two stars, but they must keep that up if they come back if this team is to win. Returning to supporting players may not be enough to see them across the line.
Los Angeles Clippers
It’s fair to say that without Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers would be nowhere near where they are now. Said to work with Paul George, although George had injury concerns, much of his workload was added to Leonard’s already large workload.
The biggest question for the Clippers is simply how long can Leonard go on like this? He plays huge minutes, leads the team and that will wear him down at some point. The longer he goes, the more chances the Clippers have of winning something.
The Jazz plays a very fast and expansive style of basketball that has served them well so far in the regular season. They exploded at times and won multiple double-digit games to impress us all.
However, when we get to the playoffs the games will slow down and tactics will become even more important, as will fine-tuning. Can your style still work if that happens? That is the big question hanging over them.
For the past two seasons, we’ve been disappointed with the postseason Bucks, and they might do that to us again. In their day this team is electric, but again this season they have an excellent record against the lower teams in the NBA and are fighting against teams with a track record.
Until that changes and the culture on this team changes, they’ll be fighting in the playoffs.
The 76ers, when healthy, have two very important components to making a playoff run. They have a legitimate claim to be one of the best defensive teams in the league, if not the best. They also have a lot of veteran leadership.
Put those two together and that alone will get this team to the playoffs where others couldn’t keep up, add some points and they could be dark horses.
The Suns are a young team that has been successful in the regular season and shows us that they are good enough to play against most of the league. If they make the playoffs, the question arises, can they move on and step up one more gear as those around them are likely to do the same.
The simple answer is we don’t know, and it will be exciting to find out.
The reason Denver isn’t a favorite for the NBA title is because of Jamal Murray’s injury. Put him on the pitch with Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets can beat anyone in their day as we saw in last season’s playoffs.
The Murray injury has done a lot for this team, but with Jokic on the team and likely on his way to becoming the league’s MVP, they could go further than we think.
The Heat, like the Bucks, really have problems when they play against the better teams in this league. You seem to find a nudge, but then have trouble following it when the going gets tough.
Since every team is classified as a good team in the playoffs and wins, one has to wonder how the Heat will fare against the bigger teams there.
Jayson Tatum continues to be a bright spot for the Boston Celtics, but a lack of consistency and leadership on the team prevent them from really making progress.
Until these two issues are properly addressed, it will be a while before we see the Celtics compete against each other again.
